AK Purwaha applies for CMD at EIL

Vol 12, PW 25 (21 May 09) News in Brief

GAIL director business development AK Purwaha wants to be the next CMD of Engineers India after losing out in January to BC Tripathi for the CMD post at GAIL.

Purwaha’s application has changed the game, according to prospective candidates. “He was number two during the GAIL chairman interviews and is experienced,â€‌ says one.

“I am not sure if I will go for the interviews now.â€‌ Efforts to find a new CMD at EIL to replace Mukesh Rohatgi who steps down on October 1 descended into chaos after March 30 interviews when oil secretary RS Pandey complained no experienced or director-level candidates had applied and ordered a selection re-launch.

Purwaha is the only director-level oil candidate among 14 to submit his CV but could face stiff competition from a promising outsider, who applied last time, but didn’t turn up: AR Choudhury, chairman of the National Building Construction Corporation. Earlier hopefuls RD Goyal and Deepak Mudgil have also re-applied.
