More than three months after the earlier interview process was scrapped, the Public Enterprises Selection Board is preparing to select the new CMD of Engineers India.

PETROWATCH learns the PESB has fixed July 16 and 17 for interviews to find a replacement for Mukesh Rohatgi who retires on October 1, after four years. Seventeen candidates have been shortlisted: twelve will be interviewed on July 16 in two batches of six and the remaining five on July 17.

GAIL’s AK Purwaha and HPCL’s OP Pradhan are touted as â€کpromising outsiders’; the favourite â€کinternal’ candidates are GD Goyal and Deepak Mudgil. “Purwaha’s arrival has changed the game for everyone,â€‌ we hear.

“My sixth sense tells me he will get it; it would be too humiliating for him to report to (BC) Tripathi who was his junior at GAIL.â€‌ Purwaha lost out to Tripathi in the race to take over as GAIL chairman when UD Choubey retires on July 31.

Oil secretary RS Pandey aborted an earlier round of interviews in April.
