Jubilant to spud Tripura well next month

Vol 11, PW 22 (20 Mar 08) News in Brief

Delhi-based Jubilant Energy is set to spud its first well next month at onland Tripura block AA-ONN-2002/1.

Three wells will be drilled in Phase-I of the exploration period. “We have a rig from ETA, Dubai for three firm and two optional wells,â€‌ says Jubilant.

“The rig is already on location and well sites are being prepared.â€‌ Each well will be drilled to TD of between 3200 and 4000 metres to reach the Upper Bhuban Miocene era formation.

Jubilant expects each well to take about 90 days to drill. By last May, Asian Oilfield Services had shot 203-km 2D seismic for Jubilant and this data has been interpreted.

One of the drilling locations is based on the interpretation of this seismic while the other two are based on older data. Jubilant believes it can strike gas at this block because of its proximity to ONGC’s producing Baramura gasfield and the Agartala (gas) Dome.

Operator Jubilant holds 20% alongside GAIL with 80% at the 1680-sq km NELP-IV block.
