Rains delay Kathalachari-I testing

Vol 13, PW 8 (24 Sep 09) News in Brief

Heavy rains have delayed Jubilant Energy’s plans to test the Kathalachari-I well drilled to more than 3600 metres depth at its promising onland block AA-ONN-2002/1 in Tripura.

On August 10, Jubilant hired a 550-hp workover rig from Dewanchand Ramsaran to test the Kathalachari-I well, which showed gas in several zones. Dewanchand was expected to mobilise the rig to site by September 10, but according to a source, “mobilisation is delayed because of heavy rains.

â€‌ Earlier this month, Dewanchand assured Jubilant the rig would reach the well on or before September 30. Techno Canada Inc, a service contractor hired by Jubilant to test the well, has already mobilised its equipment to site and is waiting for the Dewanchand rig, we hear.

“Jubilant will carry out a Drill Stem Test,â€‌ says a source. Jubilant spud this well - the third of seven exploration wells committed at the block - using a 1300-hp rig owned and operated by Quippo Oil & Gas.
