Jubilant Tripura extension

Vol 15, PW 26 (12 Jul 12) News in Brief

Delayed forest department clearances have prevented Delhi-based operator Jubilant Oil & Gas from completing two Phase-II wells at 1680-sq km NELP-IV block AA-ONN-2002/1 in Tripura.

Jubilant wrote to the oil ministry last month, seeking a six-month extension to Phase-II, which ends on July 24. Jubilant complains it changed its drilling location in line with forest department directions, but still suffered a 288-day delay.

It only began drilling Phase-II well Matabari-1 in May but is expected to reach 3000 metres TD in September. Next it will begin civil work for Phase-II well North Atharamura-1, likely to be spud in January 2013.

Jubilant entered Phase-II on January 25 after paying a $622,512 penalty for incomplete Phase-I well North Ambasa, abandoned 507 metres short of TD. The Phase-I well Jailungpara-1 wasn’t commercially viable; but Kathalachari-1 flowed 547 cm/d of gas through a 14/64-inch choke.

Jubilant (20%) shares AA-ONN-2002/1 with GAIL (80%).
