NK Mitra waves goodbye to GSPC

Vol 21, PW 1 (05 Oct 17) News in Brief

NK Mitra is the latest at GSPC to suffer the fallout of ONGC's acquisition of an 80% stake at shallow water block KG-OSN-2001/3.

Ex-ONGC director offshore Mitra was GSPC's chief operating officer but left the job last month. "September 25 was his last day," confirms a GSPC source.

"We gave him a warm send-off." Keen to induct its own personnel, there was no work for Mitra after ONGC's acquisition. When his contract ran out in March, GSPC's Board decided against renewing it choosing instead to extend it only until ONGC completed the Deen Dayal takeover.

"Mitra was a typical engineer," adds another company source. "He kept a low profile and kept himself busy with his Deen Dayal work." Also a former president of technical services at Reliance, Mitra joined GSPC in March 2013 on a salary of Rs1.5cr/year ($225,00).

This had since swelled past Rs2cr/year ($301,000). So far Mitra is the highest profile GSPC employee to be shown the door after GSPC issued termination letters to 21 engineers working in August.
