NK Mitra takes charge at Deen Dayal

Vol 16, PW 20 (02 May 13) News in Brief

Former ONGC offshore director and ex-Reliance chief of technical services NK Mitra is wasting no time in his new role as GSPC chief operating officer.

Since taking charge on March 26, Mitra has made four back-to-back journeys from Gandhinagar to GSPC's KG block off the Andhra Pradesh coast. GSPC hopes Mitra is the man to ensure it meets its target to begin producing gas from Deen Dayal West by July this year.

Gujarat energy minister Saurabh Patel and GSPC managing director Tapan Ray are both happy with Mitra's work. "He has landed on his feet," a GSPC source tells us.

"He has galvanised all of us. We should have brought in Mitra much earlier.

But better late than never." Mitra, 64, is based in Gandhinagar for now but there’s talk he might move to the GSPC onshore base at Kakinada.

“Mitra has been involved with almost all offshore platforms installed in India,” we hear. GSPC concluded its Deen Dayal West price discovery exercise on March 22.
