BPRL readies 3rd well

Vol 19, PW 20 (16 Jun 16) News in Brief

Bharat Petro Resources (BPRL) is planning to tender for a workover rig while simultaneously preparing to drill a third exploration well at CB-ONN-2010/8.

BPRL released Essar Oilfield's 1000-hp land rig on June 7 from the second well Pasunia-2 spud on April 10 and drilled to 2130 metres by May-end. "Essar began moving the rig today," confirmed a BPRL source on June 9.

"Moving to the next location, rigging up and spudding can take up to 10 days (or till June 19)." BPRL's third well is tentatively named VA-1 and will be drilled to between 2000 and 2300 metres TD targeting Cambay formations around 12-km from Pasunia-2. In parallel BPRL is finalising a tender to hire a 750-hp land rig to test "some" of the six Phase-I committed wells at this block.

"Earlier we planned to issue a tender by the end of May," says BPRL. "Now we're discussing when is a suitable time." Another source explains BPRL first wants to complete its six-well Phase-I commitment and then test any wells with hydrocarbon indications.

BPRL has yet to log the last section of well Pasunia-2, spud on April 10 and drilled to 2130 metres by end-May.
