Reliance seismic at D3

Vol 15, PW 26 (12 Jul 12) News in Brief

Five major seismic contractors are competing to shoot up to 800-sq km of ‘broadband’ 3D for Reliance and technical partner BP at 3288-sq km NELP-V eastern offshore block KG-DWN-2003/1 (D3).

CGGVeritas, PGS, Schlumberger, WesternGeco and Polarcus made presentations to Reliance in Mumbai in end-June. Reliance wants to shoot multi azimuth 3D (a broadband deghosting acquisition technology) to address ‘sub-surface imaging issues’ below ‘toe thrust’ and ‘sub-thrust.

’ It hopes to begin the shoot by February 2013 and complete it by May. Reliance will issue a formal tender soon to short-listed contractors.

In Phase-I it must shoot 2100-sq km 3D and drill six wells, and drill 14 wells in total by Phase-III. It has shot 4129-sq km 3D and drilled three wells, each a discovery: Dhirubhai-39, Dhirubhai-41 and Dhirubhai-44.

The proposed ‘broadband’ 3D must be shot around Dhirubhai-39. Operator Reliance (60%) and BP (30%) share the block with Hardy Exploration (10%).
