Jain gets 3-month extension as GAIL chairman

K Jain might at last be confirmed in his post. Prashant Banerjee, executive director at Indian Oil's western region - and controversial first choice before Jain in the original panel to replace former chairman C.

R Prasad - has now switched his attention to another vacant job: director marketing at Indian Oil. It's believed Banerjee has oil minister Ram Naik's support for the job and has been selected by the PESB ahead of P.

K Aggarwal, planning director at the Oil Coordination Committee. This takes the pressure of Jain, who has been given a three-month extension as acting chairman of GAIL until 31st July.
