Jagdish Chander Nakra is having a good year.

Nakra was promoted to director at Engineers India five months ago in April but is set to rise yet again after the PESB recommended his name on September 19 to replace company chairman Sanjay Gupta who retires on October 31. Also in the race were seven other candidates including directors VC Bhandari and RK Sabharwal.

"Nakra will take charge as chairman in November," reports a pipe manufacturer. "He's lucky to make such a big jump in a year." An Engineers India source adds Nakra has extensive experience.

He joined the construction division in 1983, moved to marketing, then to projects for a few years, then back to marketing as an executive director for two years, before returning to projects and promotion to director. Aged 56, Nakra studied mechanical engineering from Punjab Engineering College and holds a post-graduate diploma in management studies from the Jamnalal Bajaj Institute of Management Studies in Mumbai.

Born on January 19, 1961, he retires in January 2021.
