Atanu Chakraborty is new DGH boss

Vol 19, PW 12 (25 Feb 16) News in Brief

At last, the suspense is over.

Anyone anxious to know who will be the next DGH director general has the answer: GSPC managing director Atanu Chakraborty. But don't expect Chakraborty to move to Delhi before May - the state government needs time to relieve him of his duties as GSPC managing director.

His appointment, signed by cabinet appointments committee secretary Rajiv Kumar, was faxed to GSPC at 1pm on February 24. "The ACC has approved the appointment of Atanu Chakraborty as Director General of the DGH with the rank of additional secretary for four years or till further orders," it reads.

Chakraborty first received notice of his transfer to a central government position in Delhi on June 23, 2015. "But we never guessed he'd go as DGH chief!" says a startled GSPC colleague.

Gujarat chief secretary Ganga Ram Aloria confirmed the development. "Yes!" he tells this report.

"We've been informed about Atanu's selection as DGH chief." Chakraborty did not respond to calls or texts.
