Singh replaces Atanu as MD at GSPC

Vol 19, PW 15 (07 Apr 16) News in Brief

JN Singh, additional finance secretary in the Gujarat state government, has taken additional (temporary) charge of GSPC as managing director following the appointment of Atanu Chakraborty as the DGH's new boss in Delhi.

"Singh's appointment is a temporary measure," confirms a source in Gandhinagar, "until the government finds a full-time replacement." Aged 56 and from Bihar, Singh is widely perceived as competent, humble and approachable. "He's a good boss to work with," adds a second source.

"He takes decisions fast." Several observers predict Singh's tenure at GSPC will be short-lived. "Saurabh Patel (energy minister) appointed Singh as a stop gap arrangement," we hear.

"Finding a suitable replacement to Atanu is difficult because so many senior and experienced IAS officers from Gujarat have gone to Delhi." Not only this, it's believed Singh, one of the most senior bureaucrats in Gujarat, has his sights on a more prestigious position: chief secretary and GSPC chairman when the current incumbent Ganga Ram Aloria steps down on July 31.
