MM Kutty to replace KD Tripathi as oil secretary

Vol 21, PW 16 (17 May 18) News in Brief

Dr MM Kutty, special secretary in the department of economic affairs, is replacing KD Tripathi as secretary in the oil ministry, according to a department of personnel and training notice released on May 18, 2018.

Kutty's appointment dispels persistent rumours that DGH boss Atanu Chakrovarty would replace Tripathi when he steps down on June 30, 2018. "Chakraborty was getting additional responsibilities," says an observer.

"He was put in charge of the gas (trading) hub project which the ministry wants to start from October this year (2018). He has also been seen sitting close to the minister during events which have no connection with the DGH or its work.

These were all indications he might take over when Tripathi retires. Kutty is currently officer on special duty in the oil ministry.
