Expect a 1500-hp onland rig tender in July from Jubilant Energy to drill two wells to evaluate the North Atharamura-1 (NA-1) gas discovery at Tripura onland block AA-ONN-2002/1.

Jubilant executives met partner GAIL in Greater Noida on May 27 to discuss the appraisal programme. A consortium source says Jubilant is expecting MC approval by July for the appraisal plan, which it submitted on May 30, 2014.

“Jubilant plans to begin drilling by the end of this fiscal year,” adds our source. “After seeing the results of the two appraisal wells we’ll decide if we want to drill more.

” Jubilant tested three zones at the discovery made in May 2013 at well NA-1: Object-I between 2185-2191 metres, Object-IA between 2180-2191 metres and Object-II between 610-625 metres. “Object IA indicated gas in the Lower Bhuban interval, but the results were inconclusive,” says our source.

“The DGH has advised us to test the Lower Bhuban structure with appraisal wells.” Jubilant will use the first appraisal well to target the Middle Bhuban formation or Object II at 610 metres in the northern down-plunge of the Atharamura anticline.

Object-II flowed gas at 1.7m cf/d (48,000 cm/d) through a 24/64" choke. Jubilant will drill the second appraisal well 11.2-km north of NA-1 on the same trend line connecting it with the producing Moulavi Bazar gasfield in Bangladesh, 40-km north of the extreme down-plunge of the Atharamura anticline.
