Deepwater Frontier at D-6 by 26th July

Vol 10, PW 6 (13 Jul 06) News in Brief

Transocean deepwater drillship Deepwater Frontier is expected on location for Reliance at its D-6 block around 26th July.

PETROWATCH learns Deepwater Frontier reached Durban in South Africa on 3rd July to load equipment and crew. She then sailed from Durban for India on the evening of 5th July.

Customs clearance (for the rig) will be done on location, we hear. Reliance wants the rig to start drilling right away.

Reliance has hired Deepwater Frontier for two firm years and three optional years. She is one of the most modern deepwater drillships in the Transocean fleet and can drill in water depths of 3000 metres.

Reliance wants to land first gas from D-6 by June 2008 and wants two additional Transocean deepwater rigs at D-6 by next year: Deepwater Expedition and Discoverer 534. On 27th June, Niko Resources, which owns 10% of D-6, upgraded in-place gas at the block to 35.4-tcf.
