CVC gets expertise

Vol 15, PW 13 (12 Jan 12) News in Brief

Anti-corruption watchdog Central Vigilance Commission (CVC) is busy equipping itself with oil and gas sector experts so it can better handle industry corruption cases.

PETROWATCH learns ONGC sent two of its officers on deputation to the CVC about two months ago to help explain ‘technicalities’ related to PSCs. Still unclear is how long ONGC’s officers, a geophysicist and a chemist, will remain there.

“Our job is to advise on matters related to PSCs under investigation,” says one of the officers. “There is no set timeframe for this appointment.

” Our source adds he has already given his view on Mukesh Ambani-controlled Reliance’s D6 block. “I’ve seen three or four files on the (D6) block,” we hear.

“I did not comment on ‘technical matters.’ My job was to tell the CVC if Reliance’s actions are in line with the PSC.

” State-owned oil marketing companies IndianOil, Bharat Petroleum and Hindustan Petroleum are similarly expected to send officers to the CVC.
