Deepest well in Gujarat

ONGC plans to spud its deepest onshore well in Gujarat on September 1 at its Ahmedabad ‘asset.

’ PETROWATCH learns well WJAI is located at the Wadsar-Wamej field, which lies north-west of Ahmedabad city. “At 4500-metres this is the deepest well ever spud in the history of ONGC here,” says a company source.

ONGC director exploration DK Pande will fly down especially from Delhi to witness the ‘spudding’, he adds. “This well lies in Wamej low in the Ahmedabad PEL area,” we hear.

ONGC is excited about the well’s prospects, saying it “opens exciting and significant ‘plays’ in ‘deeper stratographic sequences’”. ONGC is drilling WJAI to “explore ‘high amplitude anomalies’ in Olpad and older formations.

” It has mobilised a rig to the site but gives no further details. “Depending upon the results and exploration leads obtained up to 4500-metres,” our source adds, “the well could be deepened further.

” ONGC has identified seven drilling locations in total at Wadsar-Wamej.
