Vol 11, PW 11 (04 Oct 07) News in Brief

OVL finance director DK Sarraf is all set to become the new director finance at ONGC.

PETROWATCH learns Sarraf, 50, came first during interviews at the PESB office in Delhi on September 27 and 28. T.

Vasudevan, executive director at Indian Oil, came second. Many were surprised at news of Sarraf’s selection because JB Bansal was seen as favourite.

“Bansal was rumoured to be close to RS Sharma,â€‌ reports a source. “But two weeks before the interviews ONGC’s core strategy group met and decided Sarraf is more dynamic.

Sarraf was called by RS Sharma and told to apply for the post saying it would be a wasted opportunity if he didn’t.â€‌ Bansal’s name was dropped also because people had started talking about his selection as if it were a foregone conclusion.

“Sarraf was confident before the interviews,â€‌ we hear, “as if he knew he would get the post.â€‌ Sarraf has been director finance at OVL since February 2005 when he took over from RS Butola, who became MD of OVL.
