ONGC director finance

Vol 15, PW 16 (23 Feb 12) News in Brief

ONGC’s chief of corporate finance AK Banerjee, 53, must be a happy man.

Banerjee received excellent news on February 21 when the Public Enterprises Selection Board (PESB) selected him for the ONGC director finance post, vacant since last September when DK Sarraf moved to ONGC Videsh (OVL) as its managing director. Banerjee was one of only 12 candidates who attended interviews, though 15 were shortlisted.

Described as ‘down to earth’ yet intelligent, he is believed to have won because of support from ONGC chairman Sudhir Vasudeva. “He had an edge over other candidates as he has been interim director finance since September,” we learn.

“Banerjee was also liked by (former director finance) Sarraf who brought him to Delhi from ONGC’s Mumbai office.” As interim director finance, Banerjee gained experience attending ONGC Executive Committee and board meetings.

OVL director finance SP Garg was another strong contender.
