BP moves into old BG office in Gurgaon

Vol 11, PW 6 (26 Jul 07) News in Brief

The Delhi suburb of Gurgaon might have been difficult for British Gas, but it’s attractive for others.

Oil major BP, we hear, is set to leave its longstanding central Delhi address at Mercantile House on Kasturba Gandhi Marg, where it has been since 1991, and move to Gurgaon by October 1st. Curiously, BP is in negotiations to finalise the lease deed for the same office BG abandoned because it was too far from the oil ministry and the DGH.

BG found it impractical working out of Gurgaon and shifted all staff to Delhi and Mumbai. By contrast BP feels its Delhi office is too small to meet planned business growth.

Moreover, BP finds it cannot afford a bigger office in Delhi itself thanks to soaring property rentals. BP’s Delhi office now hosts the country head as well as exploration & production, gas, trading and business development activities.

We are told that there will be an, “increase in the number of (BP) staff and more business activities across all the above areasâ€‌ in India.
