Semi-submersible rig Essar Wildcat is expected to reach Cape Town on 29th April for her final refit before travelling to India.

An industry source tells us owner Dubai-based Essar Oilfields Services will be spending $60m on refurbishing and upgrading the rig before it reaches GSPC’s discovery block KG-OSN-2001/3 offshore Andhra Pradesh for her first contract. “Essar is sparing no expense,â€‌ we are told.

“When the refit is over Wildcat will be like a brand new rig.â€‌ At Cape Town, Wildcat will be fitted with a new top drive and crown compensator.

Offshore India she will be fitted with a new 15,000-psi stack Blow Out Preventor before moving to the GSPC block for her first contract. Last December, Essar bought Wildcat from Transocean for about $220m.

She will stay off Cape Town for 14 days before sailing to the GSPC block, for arrival in mid-June. On 9th April GSPC announced it had also hired Deep Driller 1, bringing to four the number of rigs it will deploy at KG-OSN-2001/3.
