Narendra Kumar heads for IGL exit

Vol 19, PW 18 (19 May 16) News in Brief

All efforts by GAIL chairman BC Tripathi and director human resources M.

Ravindran to extend Narendra Kumar's term as managing director of Indraprastha Gas until retirement in 2020 have failed. ES Ranganathan, a GAIL executive director in charge of operations and maintenance, is poised to take charge of IGL, replacing Kumar who moves to GAIL's corporate planning department.

"I have been informed that I will go to IGL," confirms Ranganathan, when contacted by this report. "The order confirming my appointment is yet to come, I am expecting it soon." Kumar is believed to have earned oil minister Dharmendra Pradhan's displeasure for his perceived failure to increase CNG availability in Delhi.

In private IGL employees welcomed news of Kumar's departure with the distribution of sweets and barely concealed delight. "Many policies introduced by Kumar weren't in the interest of employees," says one.

"We have high expectations of the new MD."
