Kumar new boss at Indraprastha Gas

Vol 16, PW 19 (18 Apr 13) News in Brief

Narendra Kumar, 53, took charge on April 15 as MD of Delhi-based gas retailer Indraprastha Gas (IGL).

Former IGL managing director M. Ravindran has since returned to GAIL where he will take charge as director human resources on June 1.

Kumar was earlier GAIL executive director (corporate resources). He joined GAIL in 1980 as a manager at Vijaipur.

“Kumar is talented and a thorough gentleman," says a GAIL source. "He has good technical and administrative knowledge.

” Yet many at GAIL are surprised that company executive director (human resources) PK Gupta was not selected as IGL boss. “Gupta has an ‘idealistic’ approach to work but the company needs somebody practical,” says a GAIL source.

“Kumar’s technical knowledge must have helped him.” Executive director projects Ashutosh Karnatak was also in the race but he stepped aside as he has ambitions to become the next GAIL director projects, for which interviews are in June.
