Sahney for IOC director P&BD

Vol 27, PW 17 (22 Aug 24) News in Brief

Arvindar Singh Sahney has been recommended as director of planning and business development at IndianOil.

On August 20 (2024), the PESB interviewed 12 candidates through videoconferencing to replace Sujoy Choudhury who retires on August 31 (2024). Sahney's name was first on the list of interviewed candidates.

He accepted a congratulatory phone call from this report and said he'd be happy to "sit across the table" and talk about his priorities, but only after he is formally appointed to the role. Sahney is an ED with IndianOil, heading the commercially important petrochemicals division since February 2022, according to his LinkedIn profile.

An industry source describes Sahney as approachable. Within IndianOil, he's widely praised as an effective team leader.

Our source believes it is unsurprising that Sahney has been recommended for director planning and BD because all domestic refiners are now focusing on petrochemicals. Of the 12 candidates interviewed by the PESB, six were from IndianOil.

Among them were EDs Jitendra Kumar, Subrat Kar (planning and economic studies), Umish Srivastava (alternate energy and new energy campus), Suman Kumar (E&P business development), and Saumitra Priya Srivastava (retail sales, Maharashtra). The PESB interviewed two EDs from Hindustan Petroleum: Dharmendra Kumar Sharma (corporate strategy, planning and business development) and Debashis (single name), deputy CEO of Hindustan Colas.

Also interviewed were three EDs from GAIL: Aloke Kumar Naskar (petrochemicals), Atul Kumar Tripathi (projects) and Kamal Kishore Chatiwal, MD of Indraprastha Gas. Last on the PESB interview list was Lalitesh Kumar, technical member and head of central technical services (technology) at ONGC joint venture ONGC Petro Additions.
