Transocean wins ONGC rig tender

Vol 19, PW 18 (19 May 16) News in Brief

There's good news and bad news in ONGC's two-rig tender to drill development wells at the Vashishta and S1 fields and exploration wells at KG-DWN-98/2.

In Category-II, where ONGC wants an anchor-moored rig to drill in depths of 600 metres for two years, Transocean won by quoting $127,000/day for Jack Bates against $156,000/day quoted by Dynamic Drilling for Noble Max Smith after ONGC opened price bids on May 17 at 11.45 am. "ONGC is likely to issue a LoA to Transocean this month (May)," says a source.

ONGC wants the rig mobilised between July and October 1, 2016. Only Transocean and Dynamic confirmed rig availability.

In Category-I where ONGC wants a DP rig to drill in water depths of 1500 metres it has postponed the price bid opening after China Oilfield Services, which offered COSL Prospector, complained to the Independent External Monitors (IEMS) over its disqualification. "Most of our tenders are delayed like this," laments ONGC.

"We're thinking of modifying the IEM system."
