ONGC plans four wells at Damoh PEL

Vol 19, PW 6 (19 Nov 15) News in Brief

ONGC is gearing up to begin drilling four exploration wells at the Damoh-Jabera-Katni PEL block in Madhya Pradesh beginning April 2016.

On November 5, ONGC invited bids from civil contractors to prepare the drill sites for planned wells R-NA-H, R-NA-I, R-NA-J and R-NA-K (Nohta) to be drilled in the Damoh area of the block. ONGC tells PETROWATCH it has acquired land to prepare the drill site for one exploration well and is securing land for the remaining three.

Each well will be drilled to 2000-2200 metres TD, targeting the Satpura geological formation. ONGC adds it will use one of its own 1000-hp land rigs but will most likely issue tenders to hire oilfield services.

On February 14 this year (2015) ONGC announced a gas discovery at this Vindhyan basin block where well Damoh-4 drilled to 1652.5 metres TD flowed gas at the rate of 443 cm/d through a 4mm bean when tested “opening up a new play."
