UV Mannur back in race for IOC director mktg.

Vol 18, PW 20 (04 Jun 15) People & Policy

UV Mannur doesn’t give up easily.

After being unceremoniously stripped of the IndianOil director marketing role by the cabinet, he has bravely applied again and is among 11 IndianOil candidates in the race. The PESB was forced to re-advertise the post on April 23, 2015 asking interested candidates to apply by June 11 after Mannur’s selection on May 26, 2014 was inexplicably rejected.

“Nothing has been officially announced but we hear the interview date is fixed for June 24,” says one candidate who applied. “As the post is vacant the PESB is in a hurry.

" This post has been lying vacant since January 1 when M. Nene retired.

In total the PESB will call 15 people for interviews, of which eight must be from IOC. “We’ll know who has been shortlisted only by June 17 as candidates are still applying,” says a source.

If there are fewer than seven external applicants then the PESB will invite more applications from IOC. An IOC executive director says the PESB is in a difficult position.

“If the PESB rejects Mannur this time it will contradict the previous selection,” he says. “But if it selects him the government will be embarrassed.

” Other favourites are executive directors Balwinder Singh Canth and GK Satish. “Canth is the second-most experienced after Mannur and well-liked by juniors,” says another IndianOil officer.

“He has marketing experience and is politically well-connected.”
