Mannur stripped of IndianOil dir. mktg post

Vol 18, PW 18 (07 May 15) People & Policy

Hugely disappointed and humiliated, UV Mannur is consulting lawyers to decide whether to challenge the PMO's arbitrary decision to reject him for the IndianOil director marketing post.

Against all expectations the PESB publicly re-advertised the vacancy on April 23, asking interested candidates to apply by June 11, 2015. “There were absolutely no grounds for Mannur’s rejection!” exclaims an angry supporter.

"If he challenges the decision it will go to the Delhi High Court." Others believe Mannur doesn’t have the courage to stand up to the oil ministry.

“He’s scared the ministry will be vindictive,” we hear. “But if I was in his position I would challenge it.

He has only two years before retirement and has nothing to lose." Still unclear is if Mannur will re-apply even though he is eligible.

He officially retires on March 31, 2017. “Why should he apply?” adds another IOC source.

“If they rejected him after the PESB recommendation and all anti-corruption clearances that means they don’t want him!” At least 12 internal IOC candidates are likely to apply including frontrunner and executive director Balwinder Singh Canth, widely believed to have come second in interviews when Mannur was selected on May 26, 2014. Also expected to re-apply are EDs (gas) GK Satish, (aviation) TS Khwaja, and (projects) BS Giridhar.
