Sanjib Datta is inching closer to becoming GAIL’s new director business development, as his file was forwarded yet again to the PMO in mid-March.

Venkatraman who retired in September 2014. In November (2014), the PMO returned Datta’s file seeking further clarification after the National Commission for Scheduled Tribes attacked Datta’s selection following a complaint from rival Gajendra Singh, also a GAIL executive director.

On January 9, oil minister Pradhan again forwarded Datta’s file to the DoPT but it was returned with queries on whether there was selection ‘bias’.
