Focus strikes oil at Cambay offshore

Vol 18, PW 8 (04 Dec 14) News in Brief

Focus Energy has made its first oil discovery in the Cambay basin.

Focus struck oil at well Parvati#II at its 2616-sq km shallow water block CB-OSN-2004/1, earlier part of Cairn’s CB/OS-2 block which includes the producing Lakshmi and Gauri fields. Focus spud the well in September using its jack-up Mercury Focus.

Parvati#II flowed 300 barrels from a 6-mm bean and 600 barrels from an 8-mm bean at 1109 metres during testing on November 10. This is the 8th of 18 exploration wells committed in the four-year Phase-I which originally ended on May 27, 2011.

Parvati#II was drilled to 1500 metres TD in water depths of 20 metres to the Dadhar formation. Focus drilled the first well at this block in February 2013.

But success came only with its third well, the Swally-1612 gas discovery, reported on October 7, 2013. Operator Focus (10%) signed the PSC on March 2, 2007 with Singapore-incorporated affiliate Newbury Holdings (90%) and secured a PEL on May 28, 2007.
