Wanted: rig for ONGC at CB-OS/1 in Gujarat

Vol 18, PW 3 (25 Sep 14) News in Brief

ONGC is expected to issue a tender soon for a drilling rig to drill three shallow water development wells off Gujarat at Cambay basin block CB-OS/1.

“Water depths (at the drilling locations) are between three and four metres and it’s difficult to get a rig (for such shallow depths),” says an ONGC source. ONGC earlier wanted to hire Focus Energy’s rig Mercury Focus now drilling at Cambay basin block CB-OSN-2004/1 but Focus refused as it has its own work to complete.

ONGC says the block MC approved the revised development plan in July. Besides three wells, the development plan provides for a small offshore platform and a 20-km pipeline to transport oil to the ONGC group gathering station at Akaljoni field.

“Production (8000 b/d) should begin from 2016-17,” we hear. ONGC estimates the Gulf A discovery at CB-OS/1 holds 11m barrels recoverable.

Operator ONGC (55.26%) partners HOEC (38.07%) and Tata Petrodyne (6.67%).
