No Cambay focus

Vol 14, PW 9 (21 Oct 10) News in Brief

Focus Energy should live up to its name and focus more time and energy on its 2616-sq km NELP-VI Cambay offshore block CB-OSN-2004/1.

PETROWATCH learns doubts are emerging about whether Focus can drill 18 committed exploration wells at the block by May 27 next year (2011) when the four-year Phase-I expires. “Focus has yet to apply for environment ministry clearance,” confirms a source, curtly.

“It will be done this November or December.” Focus is yet to issue a tender to hire a rig for the drilling programme, and can’t tell us when this will be done.

Nor can it clearly explain why it hasn’t completed its Phase-I seismic commitment to shoot 2300-lkm 2D and 2616-sq km 3D. “Focus suspended seismic acquisition when the monsoon season began,” we hear.

The DGH is equally evasive about the status of the block. “Please check with the operator,” said a source.

Focus signed the PSC for CB-OSN-2004/1 on March 2, 2007 and was granted a PEL on May 28, 2007.
