Essar spuds Oil India well in Assam

Vol 18, PW 3 (25 Sep 14) News in Brief

Essar Oilfield Services spud exploration well HXD for Oil India on September 10 using 1500-hp land rig LR-4.

Industry sources say well HXD is located in East Deohal in the 725.2-sq km Hugrijan mining lease in Assam. By September 17, the drill bit had reached 545 metres, still a long way short of 3105 metres planned TD.

Oil India has hired LR-4 on a three-well contract expected to take nine to 12 months. During negotiations on May 12, Oil India brought down Essar’s rate to around $26,000/day from the $36,000/day quoted.

Separately, Essar’s only offshore rig Essar Wildcat is currently doing her first workover/re-entry job for Indonesia’s Star Energy in the West Natuna Sea in water depths of 85 to 90 metres. Star hired Wildcat on July 24 for a three-well campaign expected to be completed by January 2015, at around $240,000/day.

Wildcat was with ConocoPhillips in the West Natuna area from September 2011 to June 2014.
