Oil India plans three more wells in Assam

Vol 18, PW 11 (29 Jan 15) News in Brief

Oil India is planning to drill three more exploration wells in Assam using 1500-hp land rig LR-4 on hire from Essar Oilfield Services.

An industry source confirms that the three wells will be drilled at the Moran oilfield which is close to the Hugrijan Mining Lease at East Deohal in Assam. Essar rig LR-4 was being prepared to be moved on January 27 after drilling well HXE ten days previously at Hugrijan to 2805 metres TD.

Oil India has cemented well HXE and is likely to test it later using a separate workover rig. LR-4’s next destination Moran is 97-km away and given the hilly terrain in Assam the rig move is expected to take around two weeks.

Still unclear is what TD Oil India is targeting at the three proposed Moran wells. Well HXE was spud on December 8 and completed in mid-January.

LR-4 had earlier spud another well HXD on September 10 and drilled, tested and completed it to 3105 metres TD by mid-November. HXD and HXE are about 25-km apart.
