Tripathi to appease Mathur at GAIL

Vol 17, PW 20 (22 May 14) News in Brief

GAIL executive director (marketing) Rajeev Mathur might be upset because he lost to Sanjib Datta in the race for the director business development post in February.

But as a consolation company chairman BC Tripathi is said to be thinking of making Mathur managing director at Mahanagar Gas (MGL). "Mathur is upset as he feels Tripathi supported Datta for director business development,” says a GAIL source.

“To appease him, Tripathi might shift Mathur to MGL.” Mathur, 54, took leave for a few days after the results of the director business development race were announced.

He might shift to MGL once present MD Vipin Chandra Chittoda retires in September. "But Chittoda previously worked under Mathur," says another source.

"Mathur won't be happy replacing his junior. He is currently heading the gas marketing for the entire country.

The MGL role is small compared to his current profile." Mathur was unavailable for comment.
