GAIL executive director (human resources) PK Gupta is tipped to become the next managing director of Delhi-based city gas retailer Indraprastha Gas (IGL), if you believe industry rumours.

If true, Gupta will replace current IGL managing director M. Ravindran who returns to GAIL as director (human resources) on June 1.

“Our management wants an experienced person who knows the CGD business,” reports a GAIL source. “Gupta has experience of CGD networks at Mahanagar Gas and is also close to (GAIL chairman) BC Tripathi.

” Gupta was Mahanagar Gas MD for three and half years before moving to GAIL as executive director in April 2010. Ravindran took charge of IGL as MD in October 2011, replacing Rajesh Vedvyas.

IGL, a JV with BPCL, is the sole CNG and piped gas supplier to Delhi, Noida, Greater Noida and Ghaziabad, supplying 320,000 households, more than 150 factories and 750 businesses through 600-km of steel and 6500-km plastic pipeline.
