ONGC starts looking for new director exploration

Vol 16, PW 5 (20 Sep 12) News in Brief

Twelve shortlisted candidates will be interviewed by the PESB on September 27 as the race begins to find a new ONGC director exploration to replace SV Rao, who steps down on March 31 next year.

PETROWATCH learns eight of the candidates are from within ONGC, while four are from other companies, among them Samir Biswal, director exploration at GSPC. External candidates, however, stand little chance, according to a well-informed source.

“The real competition will be between (OVL director exploration) NK Verma and RK Vij,” we hear. “Verma is already a director so stands the best chance but Vij has extensive experience of ONGC’s onshore and offshore assets.

” Other favourites among the eight ONGC hopefuls are: Anand Sahu, D. Purkayastha and Anil Sood.

Attempts by Rao to persuade his friend and colleague G. Karuppuswamy to apply came to nothing as he failed to make the shortlist.

The PESB advertised the vacancy on March 28 and accepted CVs till May 31.
