Bhartia-controlled Jubilant Energy is poised to begin exploration at its 1740-sq km onshore Manipur block AA-ONN-2009/2 - just four months after securing a PEL on November 15 last year.

PETROWATCH learns Jubilant hired Hyderabad-based seismic contractor Alpha Geo on February 1 to shoot 65-lkm 2D at the block. “Alpha Geo is mobilising its crew to the location,” confirms a senior company source.

“It is expected to begin work from April 5.” Jubilant believes Alpha Geo can complete the job before the monsoon season begins this year, expected in mid-May.

“We haven’t decided when we will issue a tender to hire a rig,” adds our source. “Most of our exploration work will be based on the 2D we acquire.

” At this NELP-VIII block, where it holds a 100% stake, Jubilant has committed to shoot 260-lkm of 2D, 200-sq km of 3D and drill three exploration wells in Phase-I. It signed the PSC on July 19, 2010 and carried out geological mapping in January 2011.
