Asian Oilfields ready to deploy RT-2 technology

Vol 16, PW 6 (04 Oct 12) News in Brief

Asian Oilfield Services hopes to resume shooting 2D for Jubilant Energy (20% and operator) next month (November) at its 1260-sq km AA-ONN-2002/1 block in Tripura, shared with GAIL (80%).

Gurgaon-based Asian Oilfield is offering Jubilant the option of shooting 125-lkm using its new RT-2 (real-time) wireless seismic acquisition kit bought from Texas-based Wireless Seismic for Rs5cr ($1m) on September 22. “This equipment is perfect for challenging areas like the northeast,” says Asian Oilfield.

“For conventional seismic you need 300 crew to lay cables but with this you need only 30 people.” Using low frequency signals similar to cordless landline telephones, Asian Oilfield also hopes to deploy the new equipment at two Jubilant blocks in Manipur: AA-ONN-2009/1 and AA-ONN-2009/2.

Jubilant hired Asian Oilfield to shoot 300-lkm at these blocks last year; around 50-lkm has already been acquired using conventional technology.
