GAIL director post draws a crowd

Vol 12, PW 12 (30 Oct 08) News in Brief

An unprecedented 43 candidates have applied to the Public Enterprises Selection Board for the post of director projects at GAIL by the October 14 deadline.

In the past, the PESB was lax about deadlines and took CVs at the last minute from internal candidates. “This time it will not happen because private candidates also applied,â€‌ we hear.

Interviews will be held six months before the current director projects Santosh Kumar Bajpai leaves in June next year. Twenty-four of the 43 candidates are from GAIL, six from ONGC, nine from other state-owned companies, two from the civil service and two from the private sector.

Executive directors CN Trivedi, RD Goyal, SK Singh and M. Ravindran are believed to be strong internal candidates.

RD Goyal, executive director projects, already works in the projects department. “Ashutosh Karnatak and Rajesh Vedvyas are also strong candidates but still at general manager rank.

â€‌ The PESB advertised the post on August 12.
