Offshore Courageous in India for Cairn

Vol 11, PW 9 (06 Sep 07) News in Brief

Cairn India is in talks to retain jack-up rig Offshore Courageous for longer than her four-well development drilling commitment at the western offshore Lakshmi, Gauri and Ambe gasfields at block CB-OS/2 in Gujarat where it is operator.

Offshore Courageous belongs to US-based Scorpion Offshore and reached Sikka port in Gujarat on August 28th ahead of her deployment to CB-OS/2 on or around September 15th. Cairn has a firm contract to drill four wells over nine months, but is believed to be talking to joint venture partners to retain the rig for an additional two wells, possibly at the Ravva oil and gasfield on the east coast.

“Nothing is finalised but Cairn is keen,â€‌ we hear. “If Cairn decides on the additional wells, the rig will stay in India for another three months.

â€‌ Cairn is believed to be paying $190,000/day for Offshore Courageous plus mobilisation-demobilisation fees of $12m. At CB-OS/2, Cairn holds 40% while ONGC has 45% and Tata Petrodyne has 15%.
