Petronet-LNG’s ambitions are growing day by day.

PETROWATCH learns the company now wants to â€کdiversify’ into the power generation business. On August 24th Petronet-LNG took the first step in this direction by filing an application with the Gujarat Industrial Development Corporation for land in the SEZ (Special Economic Zone) near the site of its Dahej terminal.

“They want to set up a 1000-MW power plant,â€‌ says a source. Late last month, Petronet-LNG also issued a mandate to consultants Lahmeyer International, a wholly owned Indian subsidiary of Lahmeyer International GMBH of Germany, to prepare a Detailed Feasibility Report for the proposed power plant at Dahej.

“Lahmeyer has been asked to submit the DFR within 10 weeks,â€‌ adds a source. “Gas for the power plant will be supplied from the Dahej terminal.

It will be an integrated project.â€‌ Petronet-LNG is expected to take a formal decision on the exact size of the new power plant after Lahmeyer submits its DFR.
