Solomon's advice for Chennai Petroleum

Vol 4, PW 21 (22 Nov 00) News in Brief

Consultants Solomon Associates of the US have suggested a clutch of short-term measures to improve operations at Chennai Petroleum's 6.5m t/y refinery at Manali.

Solomon, hired six months ago for a fee of $4.5m, has suggested a change of filter cloth to produce better quality lubes; a change of 'igniter' to lessen start-up time; and ISO de-waxing to remove wax from lube base stocks. Solomon associates is focusing on the reduction of fuel loss, around 0.9% against the Asian-benchmark of around 0.4%.

Following Solomon's recommendations, Chennai Petroleum has changed cloths at four of the nine filters in the refinery.
