ONGC transfers 300 execs

ONGC has transferred up to 300 executives following the merger of its materials management and logistics departments.

A new "Supply Chain Management" cadre has been formed that will report to the director of strategy and corporate affairs, Arunangshu Sarkar. On June 5 (2025), the management reassigned executives from materials management and logistics to other departments, including entry-level executives like assistant executive engineers, up to the ranks of superintending engineers or managers.

An ONGC office order signed by ED and chief human resource development Sheel Sood said: "As per the decision of the 650th Meeting of MCOD (Management Committee of Directors) held on March (26 )2025 and subsequent to Office order no DLI/HRD/MM & Logistics/Restructuring/2025 dated April 4 (2025), a committee was constituted to restructure the MM and logistics disciplines into a unified "Supply Chain Management" cadre; the committee submitted its recommendations for reassignment of E1-E4 executives of MM and Logistics discipline into respective relevant disciplines." ONGC's renaming of the division also led to changes in the designations of the 300 executives.

A materials management manager is now named superintending engineer, while a senior materials management officer will now be known as executive engineer supply chain management. Those with manager transport rank have become superintending engineers in drilling or production.

For some disciplines, ONGC has used a formula while reallocating duties. "A significant proportion of executives who were inducted in MM/logistics hold a mechanical engineering degree at graduate level; to ensure transparent, impartial and effective discipline change, these executives were allotted to the production, drilling and mechanical disciplines in the ratio of 2.5:1:1 by using an allocation software developed by ONGC's Infocom Section," writes Sood.
