Shipping consortia prepare for Kochi RFP

Vol 10, PW 2 (18 May 06) News in Brief

Petronet-LNG will despatch Request for Proposal documents by the end of this week to pre-qualified consortia to select a shipper for the LNG that will arrive at its terminal at Kochi.

Petronet-LNG wants two tankers, each of about 165,000 cubic metres capacity to deliver LNG to the 2.5m t/y Kochi terminal from 2009-10. By the first week of June, Petronet-LNG will issue tenders to select an EPC contractor for the construction of two onshore LNG storage tanks, marine facilities (jetty and breakwater), LNG unloading arms and regassification facilities.

As Kochis initial capacity will be 2.5m t/y, it will need just one onshore LNG storage tank, but Petronet-LNG is constructing two because it wants to eventually increase capacity to 5m t/y. Pre-construction work is underway at the site, including construction of a boundary wall, raising the level of the land to take care of water logging and site offices.
