Vol 7, PW 10 (30 Jul 03) News in Brief

TotalFinaElf has appointed Jean-Pierre Junqua as its new managing director for its Indian operations to be based in Mumbai.

Junqua arrived in Mumbai and took charge on 29th July. He replaces Emmanuel Courcier who returned to France last week at the end of his three-year tenure in India.

Courcier was managing director of the India operations for a little over a year, replacing Jean Claude Breton in April 2002. Junqua's immediate priority will be to manage Total's LNG bid for NTPC's 3m t/y gas tender for the expansion of its Kawas and Gandhar power stations and for the 3m t/y gas tender for expansion of its Kayamkulam power station in Kerala.

Junqua will also manage Total's proposed 60,000 t/y capacity underground storage LPG tanks in a joint venture with Hindustan Petroleum, planned near the refiner's Vizag refinery at a cost of $60m. A dispute between HPCL and Vizag port trust is holding up start of construction work.
