Butola eclipses Sen as favourite to replace Chandra at OVL

Vol 7, PW 23 (11 Feb 04) News in Brief

RS Butola, director finance, ONGC Videsh, has eclipsed Gautam Sen, executive director of ONGCs management academy in Dehra Dun, as the new favourite to replace Atul Chandra as managing director of OVL.

Butola is the first choice of the Public Enterprises Selection Board, while Sen is second choice to replace Chandra when he retires on 31st March. Yet coming first on a PESB shortlist wont automatically win Butola the coveted post of MD at OVL.

Its believed Sen has the strong support of ONGC chairman Subir Raha. Butolas main advantage is that as OVL finance director he is overseeing all of OVLs ongoing and planned overseas ventures.

PESB interviews were held in Delhi on 24th and 27th January. Twenty-one candidates appeared.

The file with the PESB shortlist now moves for clearances before its final stop at the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet.
