K Jagati would still be in the running for the post of ONGC's director human resources. The position falls vacant on 30th April when Jauhari Lal retires.

Two candidates are shortlisted: A.K Balyan and K.

K Jagati, at number one and two respectively. Usually the candidate at the top of the list gets the job but there have been several recent exceptions.

Jagati's well-known political connections would have come in handy until news surfaced of a CBI case against him in Guwahati over the award of local transportation contracts. "This will go against him because for top positions the candidate should have no pending CBI cases," reveals a source.

Balyan, executive director, employee relations, seems sure to get the job.
