GAIL soon to have three fresh faces on its Board

Vol 22, PW 19 (11 Jul 19) People & Policy

Next year three fresh faces are set to grace the Board at GAIL following the retirement of chairman BC Tripathi, director marketing Gajendra Singh and director projects Ashutosh Karnatak.

Anyone interested has until July 18 to apply to the PESB for Tripathi's position, which falls vacant on February 1, 2020 and comes with a salary of up to Rs3.7 lakhs/month ($5400/mth). On July 1 next year (2020) both the director marketing and projects posts fall vacant.

For the director marketing position anyone interested has until September 5 to apply; for director projects the deadline is September 11. Several GGM and ED rank officers from GAIL are eligible, say GAIL sources.

"Other candidates from outside will also apply," we hear. Either Sanjay Kumar or Rajeev Singhal, marketing EDs reporting to Gajendra Singh, have a strong chance, adds a source.

Kumar oversees gas marketing at home and is the older of the two, with almost 24 years of experience in LNG sourcing, BD and other areas, according to LinkedIn. Singhal handles GAIL’s international trade in gas and oversees LNG sourcing.

Kumar was born in June 1967 and has eight years before retirement while Singhal, born in February 1968, has nine years left. Others warn it's too early to speculate on the frontrunners for the director marketing position which comes with a salary of up to Rs3.4 lakh/month ($4900).

Gajendra Singh has held the position since April 5, 2017.
